What we agree to.
A membership is a monthly agreement between you and the room. These are the parts worth writing down.
A membership at A Place To Work is a monthly agreement for access to the space at 299 Queen St E, Toronto ON M5A 1S7 and to the member area. It is not a lease and it does not grant you an interest in the property.
Membership is by application. We decide who joins, and once the room is full a referral from an existing member is part of that decision — but a referral is input to a decision, not the decision itself.
The rate you agreed when you joined, monthly, until you tell us to stop. The rate recorded against your membership is the rate you pay: if the published price rises, yours does not.
There is no automatic recurring charge today. Each period is paid for deliberately, and your renewal date moves on when it is.
A day pass is a single day and is paid for at the time.
Credits are earned by contributing — teaching, answering, referring somebody who joins — and by the monthly allowance on some tiers. They buy things the room pays for: extra meeting-room hours, extra guest passes.
They are not money. They have no cash value, cannot be transferred or sold, and are not refundable. They do not expire while your membership is active. If your membership ends, they end with it.
Meeting-room hours and guest passes reset monthly and do not roll over. Hours past your allowance are charged to credits, at the rate published on the site.
A room you have booked and do not use is a room nobody else could book. Cancel it if your plans change; the hours and any credits come back.
You are responsible for guests you bring, including anything they do while they are here.
Your fob works while your membership is running. If it is paused, lapsed or cancelled, the fob stops working — immediately, not at the end of a billing cycle.
Fobs are yours to hold and not yours to lend. Tell us if one is lost and we will withdraw it.
Every use of the door is recorded, allowed or refused. That record exists so that questions about who was in the building can be answered.
The room works because the people in it are worth sitting next to. Harassment, discrimination and aggression end a membership.
The directory and the board are for members to help each other. They are not a list to sell to, recruit from at scale, or scrape.
What is said in private messages stays between the people in them. Do not paste them elsewhere.
You can stop at any time. Tell us and we will not take another period. We do not refund a period already paid for.
We can end a membership for a breach of these terms, and we will say why. Where nothing serious has happened, we will give reasonable notice.
When a membership ends, so does access to the space, the directory, the member area and any credit balance.
Your things. Bring a lock for anything you would mind losing; the space is shared and we do not insure your property.
Your work. We provide a desk, a network and a room, not a guarantee that any of them are available every minute of every day.
What other members do or say. We choose who joins and we act when something is wrong, but they are not our employees.
If these terms change in a way that matters, we will tell members by email before it takes effect, not by quietly editing this page.
These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and of Canada.
